After asking if I needed to bring anything to a family get together my sister-in-law told me to experiment on them. Well that's just what I did! I found a Rosewater Pistachio recipe and adapted it a little.
Since this recipe said it was based on a vanilla recipe I thought I would just adapt it to MY vanilla cupcake recipe. It said to use 2 T of rosewater which I was really skeptical of but I added it anyway (I should have gone with my gut on this one.)
While cooking I smelled the oven and it smelled terrible! Rose overload! Ew! I had a feeling these were going to be very very strong in flavour so I decided not to add rosewater to the frosting and just made a nice fluffy vanilla buttercream.
Me and Hubby taste tested one and it wasn't a good thing. The consistency was good, the icing was good but the flavour was YUCK! Way too strong! It actually tasted like I was eating potpourri!
So I took them along to the family thing and got a mixed response...but mainly people thought they were a little too strong. I think the moral of the story is go with your instincts, next time I'll add 1t of rosewater and maybe make a pistachio flavoured icing.
At least they looked pretty!
They do look very pretty though!! :-)
