It's a crazy and weird Internet "meme" thing that I just KNEW my sister loved.
I had been racking my brain for ages trying to think of a simple design for her cake this year. My ideas were along the lines of X-men, Star Wars, Marvel Comics...all of which are not SIMPLE cake designs.
I even enlisted the help of my good friend, Katie, then we had an epiphany, Nyan Cat! The perfect idea! Yaaaay!
The funny thing was that when I went to actually decorate it, it wasn't easy at all! I mean, the design is simple but it was layer after layer, little squares cut out to certain sizes and took AGES!
I wasn't expecting that!
In the end it was worth it though, even if it didn't look like much effort went into it!
My sister loved the cake (as did my niece!) so that was the most important thing!
Happy Birthday Ruth!
Should have made it a poptart body like it's supposed to be :D
ReplyDeleteGreat work as always though Lyds :D
Then you AND KATIE remembered Nyan Cat, you mean :P It looks amaaaazing I love it!
ReplyDeleteHi there. can you give me the sizes of the nyan image please? I wanna make it!
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth, sorry I don't have measurements. I just sort of looked at the picture as I cut the fondant. You could try printing out a photo of it and tracing around it? Some people use a real Pop-Tart too! Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteHey~ :D Just wondering... do you use butter icing and wait till it hardens then cut it into the shapes you need??
ReplyDeleteNo I use fondant. You can colour fondant with gel colouring to any colour you like, then roll it out, cut it out and stick it to a fondant covered cake.
DeleteI put buttercream icing on the cake before covering it in fondant. Hope this helps!
Extremely helpful! Thank you <3
DeleteI'm going to try to make this cake and use fondant for the first time ever and I was wondering what you used and how you made the little white stars all over the cake. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI would suggest getting your hands on some pre-coloured ready to roll fondant if you can. The stars were piped on using Royal Icing.
DeleteMaybe look up some tutorials to help you along the way, here is a tutorial by Wilton on how to cover a cake with fondant: http://www.wilton.com/decorating/fondant/rolled-fondant.cfm
Hope this helps!
