First Time Whoopie Pies

I like to organise baking dates every now and then with friends of mine who are keen on making something fun and delicious. Katie and I made Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies and Danelle and I made Cake Pops together. It's lots of fun having someone else in the kitchen with me to chit chat to, if no one else is around I'm oh so lonely (actually I put on pop music and dance around the kitchen).

This time, Mr S had a boys poker night at our house which pretty much meant I had to find somewhere else to be all night. Luckily one of his best friends, Mark, is engaged to the amazing Leanne who had the exact same idea as me when this "boys poker night" business came up. BAKING DATE!

I was super excited to hang out with Leanne and bake because every time we get together it's with the boys but never just us and we always end up talking about wedding plans (I love weddings!) and baking and all sorts of random stuff in between!

Everything was going well until I asked the fatal (okay, not fatal) question "can you grab a quarter teaspoon measuring spoon?" If I had known what would happen next I wouldn't have asked but sadly I can't go back in time... Poor Leanne reached into her drawer to find the spoon and put her hand into a razor sharp peeler which sliced the top of her finger. OUCH. Gross. Ouch!! She tried finding her first aid supplies but got a little overwhelmed by the sight of her own blood then ended up fainting on me! Haha! The poor thing was so dazed and confused when she came to and we managed to bandage up her finger and pop a glove on it so we could continue with our baking date. You want to know how great my first aid skills are? The first thing I did when she woke up from the faint was run and get her some marshmallows! Trust me to feed people candy to make them feel better! Leanne took some pain killers and insisted we continue with our baking plans so on we went!

Now to the Whoopie Pies, I found a recipe online and gave that a try. Having not had success the last time I tried to make some whoopie pies I was quite sceptical. The first batch came out huge and flat. So we tried to make smaller blobs and pile them high. In the end they weren't too bad they just turned out quite sticky.

I won't post the recipe because I'm not 100% sure it was the best (maybe it's just me?) But if you know of a great Whoopie Pie recipe PLEASE let me know! I want to get these right at least once!

Even though Leanne almost had to go to A & E and the Whoopie Pies didn't look like Bakerella's, we still had a great night making Whoopie Pies and eating Marshmallow Fluff (I had never eaten it, it's crazy stuff!) We also decorated some pretty cool (if I do say myself) cupcakes which I'll be showing you later in the week. In the mean time, I'm going to ask Mark to bubble wrap everything in their kitchen so the next baking date with Leanne goes without a trip to the first aid box!

    1. Hi Kara,
If you're in Auckland you can get it from Martha's Backyard: http://www.marthasbackyard.co.nz/
It's a shop that sells (awesome) American foods. Love it!
